Skylight FAQ
Are skylights really waterproof?
Yes, they really are waterproof! VELUX skylights offer three layers of water protection, including a gasket, underlayment and engineered flashing to keep water out.
Can skylights open?
Fixed skylights stay closed, but we also offer operable skylights and roof windows.
What if I want to block out the sun after installing a skylight?
Any of our VELUX skylight offerings can be paired with retractable shades in a variety of color and opacity options, from sun-filtering to black-out.
How much do skylights cost?
Can you install skylights through a second floor?
For a skylight’s rays to reach the first floor, it has to pass through the floors above. Sun Tunnels® are often a better option for this.
Are skylights compatible with all roof types?
Yes, we can install skylights and Sun Tunnels® on most common roof types.
