Storm Damage Services
After the Wind Sweeps Down
the Plain, We’re Here to Help
In Oklahoma, storm damage from wind, hail, sleet and rain is a real concern. But it’s also ripe for exploitation by unscrupulous companies. We call them “storm chasers.” You’ll see them out in force after a big storm, with names that are vaguely familiar but seldom actually local. We urge you to use this checklist before hiring any roofing company or even allowing them to touch your home.
Roof Repair Contractor Checklist:
Local Company
It’s crucial to choose a local company, but out-of-state storm chasers are good at fooling homeowners by appearing to be local. To combat this, look for local phone numbers, check for incorporation in Oklahoma by clicking here, and check their address on Google Maps. Better yet, simply choose a local name you’ve known for years.
No Deductible Deals
Be wary of any contractor who offers to somehow cover your insurance deductible. This is not only illegal, but also a sure sign that they are cutting corners somewhere to cover the deductible cost.
Better Business Bureau Rating
Check the local Better Business Bureau for the contractor’s rating. McCann’s is proud of our A+ rating.
CIB Registration
Oklahoma requires Oklahoma Construction Industries Board (CIB) registration for all roofing contractors, and their registration number should be displayed on their vehicles.
No Pre-Payment
Never, ever pre-pay. Just don’t do it. We’ve heard too many horror stories of fly-by-night operators who accept the prepayment and are never heard from again. Pay when the job is done and you are satisfied – and not a moment sooner.
McCann’s is not a storm-chasing company.
We do not solicit door-to-door for your business. Instead, we wait for you to call us. Here are some things to look for after a storm:
- Shingles that have blown off
- Exposed decking
- Loose, misaligned or damaged fascia, soffits, siding or attic vents
- Loose gutters
- Any signs of water damage inside the home
If you notice any of the above – or if you just want some peace of mind – call McCann’s for a free inspection.
When damage is found, if you like, we can meet with your insurance adjuster to ensure all damages are repaired or replaced. (Remember, the adjuster represents the insurance company, not YOU!) We will work hard to protect you and your investment.
After an agreement for repairs and payouts from the insurance company, we will provide an itemized contract that includes all repairs and total amount of proceeds to be paid by the insurance provider. We do not require any money down. We are paid by insurance proceeds only after you are 100% satisfied with the work we have provided.

Homeowners should have their roof inspected at least twice a year—once in the spring and once in the fall. It’s also a good idea to schedule an inspection after severe storms to check for damage.
