Completed Project - Oklahoma City, OK
Roof Replacement
Oklahoma City, OK
A full tear-off with a rebuilt ventilation plan
This Oklahoma City homeowner contacted McCann's Roofing and Construction for a complete roof replacement on their brick ranch-style home. The crew removed the existing roofing material down to the decking, re-nailing any loose wood before dry-in and shingle installation.
Along with the shingle system, this project included a reworked approach to roof ventilation: ridge vent was rebuilt above the garage only, with the mainline ridge vent openings elsewhere decked over.
Roofing scope
A Class 4 shingle system with open metal valleys
Every layer of this roof was installed to spec, with a few details tailored specifically to this home:
- Ice and water shield at all penetrations and valleys
- Malarkey Secure Start Lite synthetic underlayment across the deck
- New White drip edge along all eaves and rakes
- Open metal valleys with hemmed edges, rather than a woven asphalt valley
- Malarkey Smart Start starter shingles at gutter lines and rakes
- Malarkey Vista Class 4 impact-resistant shingles in Weathered Wood Plus, installed with 1 1/4" nails for the highest wind rating
- Malarkey RidgeFlex low-profile hip and ridge shingles in Weathered Wood Plus
- A custom-built large chimney flashing
- 10 new pipe flashings and 1 new 3"-5" vent cap, color-matched to the shingles
Ventilation scope
Ridge vent above the garage, specialty vents throughout
Rather than running a continuous ridge vent across the whole roof, this project called for a more targeted approach:
- Ridge vent installed at its current length above the garage only
- OSB used to deck over the mainline ridge vent openings elsewhere on the roof
- A new bath pro vent and kitchen pro vent added, both color-matched to the shingles
Measured for an exact material fit
McCann's orders a satellite QuickMeasure report on every project so materials are ordered to the exact dimensions of the roof, not a rough estimate.

Common questions
Questions about this project
What shingle was used on this Oklahoma City roof?
Malarkey Vista Class 4 impact-resistant dimensional shingles in Weathered Wood Plus, paired with Malarkey RidgeFlex hip and ridge and Malarkey Smart Start starter shingles.
Why does only part of the roof have ridge vent?
This project called for ridge vent to be rebuilt above the garage only, at its current length. The mainline ridge vent openings elsewhere on the roof were decked over with OSB, with additional bath, kitchen, vent caps added to handle ventilation instead.
What are open metal valleys, and why use them?
Open metal valleys use a formed metal channel down the valley instead of weaving the shingles across it. It's a durable option for shedding heavy water flow in a valley and was specified on this project in place of a standard woven valley.
How big was this roof?
This roof measured 35 squares with 136.6 linear feet of ridge and 82.32 linear feet of valleys.
